In need of a fan!

It's been almost 7 years living in our home and it's funny because I've never liked our light fixture in our kitchen. EVER. I think it's time for a new one and I think we need a fan. A fan with a lamp shade. Here is our current lighting in our kitchen. It does what it needs to, but it's not pretty.

I've been doing research and have found that they are pretty pricey. So, maybe I can make one myself!? Or maybe not?
